 Financial checkup

$1500

I take a targeted approach during our 1-hour Zoom session. We’ll review your current spending, savings, and investments. We’ll touch upon your goals and I’ll recommend straightforward steps to get you there—such as asset allocation for your investments, how much to save towards retirement, and how to create an estate plan.

After our meeting, I will send a written plan with tools to help you stay on track.

If you have brief follow up questions, I’m happy to stay in touch via email.

Comprehensive financial plan

$3500

Over 3 sessions, I’ll cover all aspects of financial wellness and provide in-depth advice on cash flow, savings, college and retirement forecasts, estate planning, insurance needs, real estate consultation, charitable giving, and investment recommendations.

The first two meetings take place within a month, the third meeting is further out and serves as a check in to see how things are going once the plan is implemented.

I’ll provide a detailed action plan and I will be available by email or phone as you execute your plan.

Common questions

What’s the difference between a traditional financial advisor and a flat-fee advisor?

A traditional financial advisor will manage your assets for an annual fee (usually 1% of your total portfolio). You can see your investments but you don’t have the option to make changes without speaking with the financial advisor first. This approach can be very costly over time and the annual fee will erode the performance of your portfolio.

A flat-fee advisor such as Simplify Financial is a consultant. I provide a recommendation but I let you make the actual decisions and implement the financial plan. The fee is transparent, you know what you pay and the investments I recommend are inherently low-cost funds. I uphold a fiduciary standard, there is no conflict of interest.

Will you provide tax advice?

Yes, I provide high-level tax advice. I consider your tax rate and tax liablity when I create a financial plan but specific tax advice should be discussed with a tax expert. I can provide a referral to a vetted CPA if you need one.

Will you tell me which stocks or bonds to buy?

I will provide a recommended asset allocation based on your overall financial plan. This will include retirement and non-retirement accounts. I favor ETFs and Index Funds due to their low-cost and tax-efficiency.

I’m not a stock picker and I can’t tell you when to buy or sell. But I can help you create a rules based plan that will serve as a guidepost. If you hold a concentration in stock due to company equity, I may suggest you diversify this position.

Will you invest my money for me?

I believe you can be self-directed with a simple allocation of ETFs and Index Funds. I will make it very straightforward so you can manage your portfolio independently. I’m happy to help if you get stuck but I don’t log into your accounts or place trades on your behalf.

Do I have to move my money to you?

No. We never take custody of your assets. You keep your money where it is (Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab), and we provide the blueprint for you to manage it effectively.

Is a flat-fee plan as "comprehensive" as AUM?

Yes. In many cases, it’s more comprehensive. Because we aren't focused on managing the trade, we spend our time on the "other 90%" of your financial life: taxes, insurance, employer benefits, and estate planning.

Do you sell life insurance or annuities?

No, I will recommend coverage based on your needs and can provide a referral. Generally, I do not recommend annuities.

Do you provide ongoing advice or only a one-time plan?

Yes, after our initial engagement, I’m happy to offer ongoing advice for my clients. You can schedule a follow-up session as needed for $450.

— Katherine H.

“What a breath of fresh air… Sarah’s approach made me feel like I had a study partner, rather than a professor lecturing from on high. I feel like I’ve got the plan I need, but even more importantly, I’ve also got the ability to see it through.”
